When you pay 75p an hour, nobody expects service
The above, from yesterday’s Guardian is, yes, some top level horseshit. But the most glaringly, screamingly wrong bit is when they get to explaining how staff on P&O ferries cruise ships are paid according to how customers rate their attitude.
“Cabin stewards whose attitude was ranked below 92% by customers will forfeit an entire bonus payment worth approximately 15% of their basic salary.”
If customers EVEN KNEW the staff on their oil-stinky, holiday ferry were being paid SEVENTY FIVE PENCE AN HOUR, they wouldn’t give a shit about their attitude.
