Things I like about this 3by3 mixtape:
1. I used to wonder about club flyers that had threats on. Nights, for example, that promised to SHRED YR FACE. And this music is exactly sort of thing I hoped people who threatened you with physical violence - whilst at the same time asking you to pay money to gain entry to the place where this assault would happen - would play.
2. At around 3 o’clock my brain gets antsy and I want to throw my laptop/self out of the window. I used to solve this with coffee; now I go for some lovely self-punishment in the gym. This mixtape, however, is pretty good if you need something to take a jackhammer to your tired brain, and break it down into tiny little bits. Don’t ask me what to do with the bits, I don’t know.
3. It made me think about cockroaches. Big, evil scuttly ones. And that makes me think it is the sort of mixtape house spiders might listen to, en masse, before ALL THOSE SPINDLY FUCKERS try to get into your house. I’ve killed two today. AND I WILL KILL AGAIN.
4. When you review music for a living, especially if that music is mostly songs written by whiny white people whose biggest problem is getting their plimsoles to match their horrible arty beards, it is quite the tonic to listen to 45 minutes of pure peril and jeopardy.
I’m awake now.
